I think it's pretty obvious what I'll be doing all weekend. If you call, I make no promises that you will be getting whole sentences out of me unless you say "HALEY! PUT DOWN THE HARRY POTTER BOOK!" at the start of our conversation. Call me a nerd. I don't care. These books are highly addictive, as I and any 12-year-old in the world will tell you. Check out the numbers here and listen for the sound of pages turning around you this weekend. This is like Christmas for geeks. I love Christmas!

Haley, got any advice for a girl who read the the first book, and enjoyed it, then made a horrendous mistake on the second? During my semester of student teaching I read the start of the second, then [gasp!] skipped to the end. : ( And now I feel terribly stuck and like I'm missing out on this tremendous cultural event. How very pathetic of me...

Oh, Becca, you can still be redeemed. :) Just skip to the third book. You're actually lucky, because by being behind in the series, you won't live with the two-year suspense the rest of us endure waiting for the next book. Perservere, Rebecca! It's a virtue.

Haley, you're not alone. I actually got my copy last night just after midnight. No, I wasn't the biggest 28-year-old nerd in the world dressed in a costume. I had to make a Wal-mart run for diaper pail liner, a critical item in my house of late, and grabbed one just after they unloaded the palet.
Enjoy the reading! I'll be enjoying acting like a 12-year-old myself.
