OK, fellow New Mexico residents: Please share with me your tips for avoiding tracking into your home those little prickly things that get stuck in the carpet and then embedded in the soles of your feet. I don't know if they're called sand burs or what. All I know is that in the last 24 hours, I've gotten FOUR of them stuck in my feet and had to spend subsequent minutes pulling them out, which is a painful process, and I need to know how to avoid this in the future. I await your sage advice. For now, I'm wearing flip flops indoors at all times.
I know, my life is very glamorous and exciting. Don't be jealous.

Those are the worst! Oliver calls them goatheads We know Una has stepped on one when she collapses on the ground during her walks and puts her little paws up.

We always called them "sand spurs" in Florida and pretty much the only way to avoid them is to check your clothing and shoes when you come in from outside. Almost as annoying (but far less painful) are "beggar lice," which are those tiny little seedpods (several varieties of plants have them where I'm from) that attach to clothing, shoe laces, and body hair (the would be bane of European ladies). Another practical option: house shoes--those understated icons of southern style.

Mrs. J is correct, they are called goatheads. The best way to avoid them is to move to a part of town where people have lived for longer than 2 or 3 years. ;)

hi there,
the "tile" you asked about is actually linoleum! it was the only thing worth keeping from the original kitchen, and it does indeed look a lot like tile. not quite the same feel, but we liked it.
take care.

I have to agree w ith Cody on the side of the town - Mostly though you just plant grass and spray weedeater at the nasty plants if they are on your property. They are so nasty that i avoid them at all costs because they actually puncture my tires on my chair (which is a bit of a nuisance).
