Happy Sunday morning everyone. Dan and I are a bit bleary-eyed today after an exciting Saturday evening. (Warning: There is no baby at the end of this story. Didn't want to disappoint anyone.) Around 7, we were making dinner, and I started having contractions. Not really very painful, but definitely happening regularly, anywhere from five to 15 minutes apart. When this was still gong on at around 10, we decided it might be time to at least pile all of our hospital trip stuff into one corner of the bedroom so we would know where all of it was if we needed it. At the time, I actually said "If I go ahead and pack the suitcase, the contractions will stop." But we kept timing, and the contractions kept coming. Some of them were getting somewhat painful, but they were still pretty random in terms of the intervals between. Around 11, we decided to go to bed since all the books tell you "If you're in early labor, try to get some rest, because you're going to need it." But it turns out to be pretty much impossible to go to sleep if you think you might be about to have a baby or some such life-changing event, so we were up just talking and waiting and timing some more. Long story short, the contractions continued until almost 2 a.m. and then just ... stopped. So Baby Kate tricked us, and today we're tired. I'm sure this is just the first of countless times she'll help us avoid the dangers of a full night's sleep.
Anyone have any fun false labor stories to make us feel less silly?

Poor, pregnant Haley! I'm sorry Kate kept you up all night. I guess she wanted to give you a preview!
Okay, I think this will make you feel better. When I was pregnant with Evangeline I had prodromal labor for an entire MONTH before she was born. I had irregual contractions ALL day EVERY day that would sometimes turn into very regular, even painful contractions for a few hours, but then they would revert back to the same I'm-getting-nowhere-but-I'm-not-going-away contractions. I even lost my plug a couple of times! It was extremely irritating.
Hope next time it's for real!! We're all very anxious to meet baby Kate--epecially Eliana, who talks about her every day to anyone who will listen. On that note, my neighbor wishes you well. :) Our prayers are with you.

I was pregnant with Abigail and it was a week and a half of two weeks before my due date. I was having contractions and needing to sit on the toilet at the same time (if you get my drift) and not feeling well. We ended up going to the hospital but by the time we got there and were talking to the labor and delivery people the contractions had stopped. I felt pretty silly to be there with no contractions but they insisted on checking me out. Turns out I had a UTI so there was at least some reason I was feeling so badly. But be not dismayed, Abigail still came a week early! There's still hope. Oh and by the way...I never had regular contractions until after they broke my water. I was dilated to 5 cm and they wanted to send me home because my contractions weren't "regular". "Hello...dilated to 5 cm!! Break my water and get this baby OUT!!!"

Sorry, Haley. When my wife was pregnant with the last baby she had very regular, strong contractions every night from 2-3 a.m. the last week she was pregnant. Our doctor had told us not to bother going in unless Lidia's water broke or the contractions had been regular for an hour. Every night, just before the one hour mark, the constractions would suddenly stop. After a week of that the doctor had pity on my poor wife and induced labor a week before the due date.
