Little Zephaniah Alouicious Wachdorf.

Interesting article here on a court case in New Zealand involving a child's right to change their name in cases where parents have displayed the intelligence of zucchini when naming their children.

I mention this mainly so that I can tell the story of the worst baby name I have ever heard. When we lived in Yazoo City, Mississippi, our family came across a birth announcement in the local paper for a little girl whose parents had chosen to name her Desert Stormy Ocean Country Cinnamon Blossom (Last Name Witheld). Really. Can you just imagine what it is like to fill out forms asking for your whole name if you've got six or seven of them?

When I was pregnant with Kate, we used to sit around and try to invent awful names we could give our child if we were so inclined. I think the worst one we came up with was Zephaniah Wachdorf. I mean, if you put anything weird in front of "Wachdorf" you're asking for trouble, so for our kids I think we'll be sticking to fairly classic names. Classic, short names. The kids will already have a job in front of them when it's time to learn to write their names in kindergarten. Poor things.

Gray:

As a former yazooite, I can't really say that the name really surprises me.

What I am surprised about is discovering a long lost family friend and former babysitter through the a tangle of odd connections.

It has been a while, how are you? It looks like you have your hands full. I do as well. I just got married 2 mo. ago. :-)

Megan:

Andy wants to name our next boy after a famous Sixer (basketball player), Moses Malone. Which would make our son, Moses Malone Lanzone. Poor kid. Thankfully I have full veto power. :-)

Haley:

Gray, I must really be old now, as I told Rebecca when she told me she met you through church and that you're married now. Man. It's great to hear from you, and many congratulations on the marriage. How's your family doing these days? I shall be stopping by your blog so that I can continue to get caught up and feel old.

It is SO weird that you would find me after all these years because of Lincoln, Nebraska. I never dreamed I'd know anyone there.

Haley:

Megan, that would be a hilarious name. Good thing you have veto power. I'm afraid if we named a kid right this minute, Dan would want to christen it "Wii Wachdorf."

That's funny!!! We kept Andrew's name a secret till he was born. His alias while he was in the womb was Bocifous (sp?)! one person took me seriously and could not believe I'd do that to my child!!!
